The Problem

Listen to your body

Do you “OUCH” when bending down to tie your shoes? Not to mention the “AARGH” when getting up again? Or do you “OOOOF” when opening the jam jar and “HMMF” when donning the socks in the morning? Risks are that you suffer from arthritis and are part of the world’s largest choir. The Pain Choir. It’s high time we recognise the groans and sighs as signs – our bodies are speaking, and if we fail to listen and respond soon enough, the damages will only get worse and worse, eventually reaching a point where no treatment can rectify. The Danish Rheumatism Associationwanted to make people aware of this and point them towards help.

The Solution

Aaaaarrrrggh

We turned the everyday signs of arthritis into an insightful symphonic act by filling a concert hall with people struggling with arthritis. Each person armed with an “instrument” being encouraged to perform a painful rendition of Johann Strauss’ Blue Danube Waltz by playing on jars, slicing bread, getting up from chairs and revving up lawnmowers. The absurd spectacle reveals the ubiquity of the disease and the struggles it creates and shows that you’re not alone. You’re part of the biggest choir in the world.
